Inalpe in the pastures of Combyre in Veysonnaz

Tradition & markets Free

Inalpe: a simple word that resonates deeply in the hearts of the people of the Valais. You too can take part in this not-to-be-missed traditional event.

10:00 - 20:00

Come and watch the mixing of the herds of Hérens cows.
This Alpine breed, packed with muscle and energy, fights to establish the hierarchy within the newly formed herd. The cows battle head to head and horn to horn without hurting each other in an impressive show of strength. An animal is defeated when it turns away from its opponent or refuses to fight in submission. The winner becomes the "Queen" of the herd.
The animals remain in the mountains all summer on the alpine Combyre-Meina pastures. The title of Queen is awarded at the end of the summer, at the desalp. The "ranking" is established regularly according to the observations of the herdsmen, and can still vary until the last day. The title of Queen is a great source of pride for the owners.

The day of the Inalpe is special, it is a day of celebration, laughter, sharing, it is the day of reward for all the work done throughout the year for the well-being of the livestock. It is also an opportunity to present these exceptional animals to all the spectators.
