Fête-Dieu in Veysonnaz

Tradition & markets Free

Far from the large traditional processions of some villages in the Valais, Veysonnaz celebrates the Fête-Dieu in a simple way. The inhabitants of the different villages of Clèbes, Verrey and Veysonnaz celebrate together in warm and friendly way.

As a public holiday in the Valais, the Fête-Dieu is dedicated to honoring Christ and allowing the glorification of Jesus in bread and wine. This festival is celebrated in Catholic countries 60 days after Easter.
In Veysonnaz, the ceremony takes place in the church. After the service, a procession is organized first to the entrance of the village where a first resting place awaits the participants, then to the village of Clèbes, if the weather permits. The children participate, the choir entertains and the population follows in prayer along the way.
In Clèbes, a friendly aperitif is served. The inhabitants of the hamlet also prepare a rest area and are happy to welcome the pilgrims in a friendly atmosphere.
