The departure of this hike is located in front of Veysonnaz Tourisme. The footpath begins after the parking spaces along the route de l'Ours, on the right as you go up the road. The path takes you pleasantly through the forest, despite the 800-metre climb. You pass by the Gouilly d'en Bas and the Gouilly d'en Haut, real havens of coolness and tranquillity in the heart of the forest.
At Thyon 2000, most of the climb is behind you. You follow the signs for Val d'Hérens - Grande Dixence. The walk continues towards the Cabane d'Essertse on a footpath that leads you up the remaining 100 metres of ascent.

All along the way, the trained eye can recognize the changes in the typical Alpine flora as the altitude increases. The Thyon mountain side, its forest with its tourist activities alongside the cattle grazing, is a great example of the cohabitation of nature and human needs.

The cabin is located in an idyllic setting with a stunning view over the Val des Dix. You can enjoy a drink, sample dishes made from local produce and even spend the night here.
