Freetrack Mont-GeléFrom the top of the cable car, the slope descends along the east face of Mont-Gelé. This very steep slope is dotted with isolated rocks. A very high level of skiing is required.
The bottom of the slope joins the Gentianes slope and ends at Tortin.Freetrack Mont-Gelé piste Sarah Bourne 2014 (Sarah Bourne Photography.com)Freetrack Mont-Gelé panorama Sarah Bourne 2014 (Sarah Bourne Photography.com)2048.8017578125Restaurant La Chotte de TortinAfter a morning of carving the slopes in the 4 Vallées, there's nothing better than a quick stop to recharge your batteries. This is exactly what La Chotte de Tortin proposes with its daily specials and a choice of other dishes on its magnificent sunny terrace. Cheese dishes, sausages, pasta and more await you throughout the summer and the winter.
If you are in a hurry, head to Baraka Frites on the terrace to get a quick snack food such as burgers and chips. Baraka Frites is open every day during the Christmas and Carnival holidays. Outside these periods, it's open every weekend (subject to favourable weather conditions).Croûte with cheese (NVRM)Roastbeef Restaurant Chotte de Tortin summer 2022 (NVRM)Salade Restaurant Chotte Tortin summer 2022 (NVRM)Frites_Restaurant_Chottes_de_Tortin_2021 Restaurant Chotte Tortin été 2011 (Arnaud Delhez)Restaurant Chotte Tortin hiver 2009 (Aline Fournier)2050.1943359375Col des Gentianes cable carThis cable car, which can carry 125 people per trip, takes skiers and non-skiers alike from Tortin to the Col des Gentianes in a few minutes.
During the ride, take advantage of the large windows in the cabins to admire the panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. From the Col des Gentianes, you can continue your ascent to the summit of Mont-Fort or descend towards Chaux/Verbier.
In winter, this lift serves the Gentianes freetrack, a long, secured but ungroomed slope that takes skiers and snowboarders back down to Tortin. For the less adventurous, the descent can also be made via the cable car.
In summer, this cable car allows those who have made the long and difficult climb from Tortin to return to the valley in a more comfortable way.
If you are lucky, you may also spot the many ibexes basking in the sunshine at the foot of the pylons.
